A pool or beach towel is not a bath towel used outdoors. It is bigger, it spends hours in sun and water, it is carried away from the room, and it goes through the laundry in large volumes every day. Defining it as its own product, rather than reusing your bath towel specification, gives better results and fewer surprises.

Start from how the towel is used

Think about the setting before the specification: a city hotel rooftop pool, a beach resort, a spa terrace and a water park each put different demands on a towel. The questions that follow from use are size, how quickly it dries, how it handles sunscreen and chlorine, and how it looks in the sun.

Size, weight and drying time

Pool and beach towels are usually larger than bath towels, so they use more fabric and weigh more per piece. A heavier towel absorbs more but dries more slowly and costs more to wash and transport. Compare the size and the weight per piece, not only the GSM, and balance them against your laundry capacity.

Plan the quantity around the property

Pool towel quantities depend on the number of loungers, the guest mix, the season and how often you collect and wash. Towels also leave the property more often than other textiles, so plan a replacement allowance. Work out a par level for your own operation rather than copying a generic figure.

Check how it behaves in your laundry

Sunscreen, oils and chlorine make pool towels harder to wash than room towels. Put a sample through your own laundry program several times and check colour, shrinkage, stain release and the condition of the border.
