Hotels in the Gulf operate in conditions that put real demands on their textiles: strong sunlight, constant air conditioning, high occupancy in peak periods and heavy laundry cycles. A purchase that works in a different climate or at a different tempo may not hold up here, so the specification should start from how the property actually operates.
Light control is part of the guest experience
Bright daylight makes room darkening a practical requirement in guest rooms, not only a comfort feature. Curtains and linings should be specified for the level of light control you need, and for fabric that does not fade quickly in strong sun. Ask to see a sample hung in a bright window before you approve a full order.
Plan for heavy, frequent laundry
Busy properties and the large laundries that serve them wash textiles often. Choose bed linen and towels by how they perform over many commercial cycles, not by the figure on the label alone. Test a sample through your own laundry program and check shrinkage, colour and the condition of seams and borders.
- Confirm the fabric and weave suit your wash temperature and chemicals
- Check that white linen stays white after repeated washing
- Ask for the size and weight per piece so you can compare quotations like for like

Align specifications across properties
Groups with several hotels need the same product to look and feel the same in every property. Define one specification for each tier, confirm it with a sample, and keep the approved sample as the reference for every later order.
Settle the import side early
The Gulf states share a customs framework, but duties, documents and labelling requirements can still differ by country and by product. Treat these as points to confirm for your own country with your customs broker, including whether labels or documents must be in Arabic. Agree who handles clearance, and who pays which charges, before you place the order.
Plan around peak periods and openings
Many Gulf properties have clear peak periods, and new openings come with fixed dates. Work back from the date you need stock in place, and leave time to approve a sample before the full order goes into production.
