GSM, grams per square metre, is the number on almost every towel quotation. It measures how much the fabric weighs for a given area, which is a useful starting point. It does not, on its own, tell you how a towel will feel, how well it will absorb or how it will hold up after repeated commercial washing.

What GSM does and does not measure

GSM describes fabric density. It says nothing about the fiber, the yarn, the pile construction or the finishing. Two towels at the same GSM can feel and perform quite differently, and the figure itself can vary from one batch to the next, so it is best treated as a target to confirm rather than a guarantee.

Size changes the total weight

A bath towel and a bath sheet at the same GSM are not the same product. The larger piece uses more fabric, weighs more per piece, costs more to wash and takes longer to dry. When you compare quotations, compare the size and the weight per piece along with the GSM.

Other factors that decide quality

Match the towel to the use and the laundry

A towel for the guest bathroom, one for the pool and one for the spa serve different purposes, and each has to survive your own laundry program. A heavier towel is not automatically better if it slows your drying cycle or raises your costs. Define the use first, then the specification.

How to compare towels properly

If you are choosing towels for a property, send us your requirements through the Request a Quote form. We will confirm the specification and the sample options with you, and our minimum order is 100 pieces per product.
